Description
|
A Meissen octagonal cup and saucer with a double iron-red border, the cup with gilt embellished handle is painted with an extremely detailed and busy continuous harbour scene depicting merchant ships, merchants, and horsemen with mountainous terrain and buildings in the distance, and the interior is painted with figures boarding a boat at the water’s edge. The saucer is similarly painted, with a fine harbour scene depicting merchants in a busy harbour with ships and buildings in the background. The borders on both have elaborate gilt scrollwork.
Circa 1735-40
Marks: blue crossed swords and a gilt H to the base of both pieces.
