Literature
|
Ayers, Impey & Mallet, Porcelain for Palaces, p. 281, no 330 for a Chelsea bowl with this pattern.
The 1755 Chelsea sale catalogue records this pattern as a "flaming tortoise" although the creature is actually a Japanese mythical creature called Minogame.
Some Minogame are said to live up to 10,000 years. The strange thing about Minogame is its tail made out of seaweed and algae. The most famous Minogame is from the legend of Urashima Taro.
