Origin Germany
Description A large and very rare Meissen bust of Prince Louis Joseph Xavier, Duke of Burgundy (13 September 1751 – 22 March 1761) one of the children from the marriage of the Dauphin of France to Marie Josepha of Saxony, modelled by J J Kändler.

This royal couple had twelve children, the fourth of whom became Louis XVI of France; the plumes in his cap possibly signified the rank of the royal child or a Dauphin in waiting.

The bust was produced in two sizes, this being the larger and rarer example.

Louis Joseph Xavier, Duke of Burgundy (13 September 1751 – 22 March 1761), was a French prince of the House of Bourbon and heir apparent of the throne of France. The bust was created when he was approx. 3 years old.
